How Long Does a GM Air Filter Last?
Your vehicle’s air filter lifespan can vary based on a few factors like the type of air filter, driving conditions, and maintenance practices. Whether it’s the engine air filter or the cabin air filter, they both can last anywhere from 15,000 to 25,000 miles. If you drive somewhere that has hotter weather, unpaved roads, or frequent off-roading, you may need to change it close to the 15,000-mile mark. Newer cars like the Chevrolet Blazer or a href=“/v-chevrolet-equinox“>Chevrolet Equinox may also be equipped with a system sensor that warns you when it’s time to replace the cabin air filter.
How to Change a GM Air Filter at Home
Changing the engine air filter and cabin air filter follows the same process. The only difference is the cabin is located inside the vehicle, typically behind the glove compartment.
- Purchase a new air filter that is compatible with your vehicle’s year, make, and model.
- Locate the air filter housing.
- Carefully remove the screws or clips securing the filter housing.
- Remove the old filter.
- Install the new filter.
- Close the housing.
