What are the Parts of the Brake System of a Car?

A car's brake system is an essential component for properly slowing down and stopping the vehicle. The main components of a car's braking system are the following:

1. Pedal

   The pedal in the brake system is the driver's input mechanism. When it is pressed, it initiates the braking process.

2. Master Cylinder

   The master cylinder, a hydraulic component, transforms the mechanical power delivered to the brake pedal into hydraulic pressure. The pressure is subsequently transferred through the braking lines to the brake calipers or wheel cylinders.

3. Brake Lines

   Brake lines are a system of steel or flexible hoses that transport hydraulic brake fluid to the brake calipers at each wheel. These lines carry the hydraulic pressure produced by the master cylinder.

4. Brake Calipers

   When the brake pedal is depressed in disc brake systems, brake calipers squeeze the brake pads against the brake rotors.

5. Brake Pads

   When the brake pedal is pressed down, friction is produced between the rotors and the pads, slowing the car.

6. Brake Rotors

   Flat metal discs installed on each wheel are braking rotors, commonly referred to as brake discs. When the brakes are applied, the brake pads clamp them.
