The Cadillac Allante, produced by Cadillac from 1987 to 1993, was a luxury roadster designed to compete with high-end convertibles from Jaguar and Mercedes-Benz. The Allante's streamlined design combined European flair with American engineering to make it stand out in the luxury market. Early models had suspension and handling tuned for a compromise between comfort and sporty driving dynamics, using a shorter version of the Cadillac Eldorado chassis. The Allante went from using a 4.5L V8 engine that was refined to a 4.6L NorthStar V8 engine that was introduced in the final 1993 model.

Modern features included on the Allante included a fully digital dashboard, a Bose stereo system, antilock brakes, traction control, and a power convertible soft top. Despite its initial struggles in the marketplace, the 1993 model with the NorthStar V8 is considered an improvement and the best version of the car. The Allante was discontinued in 1993 and was replaced with the Cadillac XLR.
